Northeast tuck-under garages, Roxborough hillside driveways, Chestnut Hill carriage houses, new-construction townhomes in Fishtown — Philadelphia's garages are as varied as its neighborhoods. Here is what we see in each part of the city, and how we can help.
Philadelphia isn't a single housing market. A garage tucked under a post-war rowhome in Mayfair has almost nothing in common with a stone carriage house in Chestnut Hill or a front-loading garage on a new Fishtown townhome — and each tends to fail in its own way.
This page goes through the city neighborhood by neighborhood. For an overview of everything we fix and the fastest way to reach us, start with our main page on garage door repair in Philadelphia and South Jersey.
Mayfair, Bustleton, Somerton, Fox Chase, Rhawnhurst, Holmesburg and Torresdale
Much of the Northeast was built with garages — many of them tuck-under garages beneath post-war rowhomes and twins, opening onto a shared rear driveway.
Those doors work hard: for many families they are the main way in and out of the house. The calls we get most here are worn-out springs on doors that cycle several times a day, aging openers, and bottom seals worn down where water collects at the foot of a rear driveway.

Steep streets mean steep driveways. When a driveway slopes toward the garage, rain and debris run straight to the bottom of the door, and a garage floor that isn't level leaves a gap on one side that the bottom seal can't close.
Here we often replace or adjust weather seals, and set the door's travel limits so it closes fully against an uneven floor without the opener straining or reversing.

Older stone and detached homes, many with detached garages or converted carriage houses — and some still with heavy wooden doors. Wood absorbs moisture and can swell in humid summers, so a spring that balanced the door years ago may no longer be matched to it.
Mature trees also mean leaves and damp in the tracks. We service carriage-style and wood doors, rebalance them when they have grown heavy, and will tell you honestly when an old door is better replaced than repaired — see our garage door installation and replacement service.

A lot of the newer construction in these neighborhoods is townhomes with a garage on the ground floor. The doors and openers that come with new builds are often basic, and the first repairs tend to arrive a few years in: a noisy or slow opener, Wi-Fi features that stop connecting, or a door that was never balanced properly.
We repair and upgrade openers, rebalance doors, and sort out the sensor and remote problems that come with smart openers — see garage door opener repair.

Garages are rarer on the dense rowhome blocks of South Philly, but they are common in the newer townhomes around Point Breeze and Graduate Hospital, and in converted garages off narrow streets. Tight spaces bring their own problems: limited headroom above the door, little room at the sides for hardware, and doors that take a knock from a car on a narrow street.
A low-headroom garage needs a track and spring setup that fits the space. And if a door has been knocked out of its track, don't run it — see what to do when a garage door is off track.

Private garages in Center City and Fairmount are often carriage-house or alley garages behind townhouses, where a door that closes and locks reliably is a security issue as much as a convenience. Further west, Overbrook and Wynnefield have more detached homes with conventional garages.
Wherever you are in the city, most repairs can be done the same day.

Every neighborhood in the city is covered. If you're in Philadelphia, we're nearby.
Whatever the neighborhood, Philadelphia's humid summers, freezing winters and frequent swings in between are hard on springs, cables and openers. Springs are the most common failure we see — often announced by a loud bang from the garage. If that happens, read what to do when a garage door spring breaks before touching the door.
A professional garage door tune-up before winter catches most of these problems early. For the checks you can safely do yourself in between, use our maintenance checklist.
We answer 24/7. Within city limits our average emergency response is under 45 minutes, and most other repairs are done the same day. A door stuck open, a broken spring or a car trapped inside the garage are all reasons to call right away — see our 24/7 emergency service.
You get a clear quote before any work begins. If a simple repair will solve the problem, we will tell you — even when a full replacement would mean more work for us.
Outside the city? We also cover the Main Line, Montgomery County, Bucks County and Delaware & Chester County, and South Jersey from Camden and Cherry Hill to Voorhees — see all service areas.
